Bonded Abrasives
Fused minerals in various size, shape and chemistry are used in the bonded abrasive industry for manufacturing grinding wheels such as; cut-off wheels, depressed center wheels, track-grinding wheels, steel-condition wheels, and cold pressed wheels.Fused alumina’s offer durability and increase the life of the grinding wheel.
Ceramics
White fused alumina and fused alumina silicate are the most commonly used fused minerals in the ceramics industry. Both minerals are used as an additive and mixed with a binder to make ceramic parts such as; wear resistant components, spark plugs, kiln furniture and more.
Coated Abrasives
Coated Abrasives require angular shaped fused minerals that exhibit high capillarity and sharp edges for adhesion to resin or glue bonds that are applied in gravity fed coating system. Fused minerals are used in manufacturing paper and cloth products such as; sandpaper, abrasive cloths, or fibers.
Industrial Abrasives
Brown fused aluminum oxide is the primary “workhorse” of industrial abrasives industry. Fused minerals offer hardness and toughness that are unrivaled in the industrial marketplace. The physical and chemical properties help determine how the abrasive is used.For instance, white fused alumina would be used in chemically sensitive environments such as medical and aerospace due to the high purity property. However, brown fused alumina would be used in general applications such as; blasting, anti-skid, cleaning, profiling, impinging, and surface preparation to name a few.
Refractories
Refractory industries benefit from the toughness of fused mineral grains and powders. The crystalline size and chemical composition are controlled during manufacturing to ensure maximum product uniformity. Fused minerals are used in general refractories manufacturing such as; fire bricks, tiles, filter plates, castables, ramming and gunning mixes, and many more.
